No. 2 | Mid-Year Momentum

The first half of 2026 has been packed with new stories, new partnerships, and plenty of reasons to celebrate.

This year marks 15 years of IDEOLOGY. What started as a small team working out of a house in Ada, Michigan has grown into a team of over 30 storytellers, strategists, producers, filmmakers, photographers, designers, and artists who continue to push what's possible for our partners and our craft.

Along the way, we've refreshed both our Demo Reel and Motion Reel, premiered a seven-episode documentary series years in the making, welcomed a new Senior Director of Growth & Partnerships, and earned two Gold ADDY Awards for work we're incredibly proud of.

We've partnered with brands old and new, produced campaigns across photo, video, animation, and design, collaborated with talented teams in our virtual production studio, and continued expanding what's possible inside Golden Hour..

Below are a few highlights from the year so far.

Award Winning Work

This spring, we submitted two of our projects to the West Michigan ADDY Awards and they both won GOLD!

These projects challenged us creatively and gave our team the opportunity to combine strategy, storytelling, photography, animation, and production into work we're proud to share.

15 Years of ideology

Fifteen years ago, IDEOLOGY wasn't a company. It was an idea.

After years spent producing video projects and traveling more than 250 days a year, founder Josh Ralya found himself asking a simple question: What would the creative company I wish existed actually look like?

At the time, Josh was working in production and creative leadership roles, after a career producing content and live events. The work was rewarding, but the pace came at a cost. Long hours, constant travel, and a growing realization that work was taking priority over the things that mattered most.

Instead of accepting that as the norm, he spent two years studying what companies truly needed from creative partners. He paid attention to the gaps, the frustrations, and the opportunities. His goal was simple: build the company he couldn't find.

When the time came to leave corporate America, he gave his team a full year's notice and set out on his own.

The earliest version of IDEOLOGY looked very different than it does today.

The company of one operated out of a small basement office in Wyoming, Michigan. Clients would walk through concrete hallways into a tiny finished room where Josh was teaching himself new software, building presentations, creating videos, and taking on any project he could get his hands on.

"I wanted to be constantly be studying," Josh says. "Not getting comfortable."

That mindset eventually inspired the company's name. Josh knew he wanted the name to end in "-ology," representing the study of something. After exploring countless options, he landed on IDEOLOGY, a name that reflected a commitment to learning, evolving, and pushing creative boundaries rather than settling for the status quo.

For the first few years, IDEOLOGY remained a one-person operation.

Part of that was practical. Part of it was fear.

"I was terrified of being responsible for someone's mortgage or their family," Josh recalls. "And if I'm being honest, there were probably some control issues too."

That changed when he hired the company's first full-time employee, longtime Creative Director Colton Phiscator [presently Chief Operations Officer].

The experience entirely reshaped how he thought about leadership.

"Hiring Colton was eye-opening," Josh says. "It showed me what’s possible when talented people bring their own strengths and perspectives to the table. That realization allowed me to step into a different role and start building something bigger."

This is when Josh considers the true start of IDEOLOGY.

One hire led to another.

Editors became creative directors. Freelancers became teammates. Producers became partners. Many of those early hires—including Colton Phiscator, Laura Burnell, Michael Elzinga, and Mary Powers—are still helping shape the company to this day.

As the team grew, IDEOLOGY outgrew the basement office and moved into a small house in Ada. Eight people eventually worked out of a space originally intended to be a home, squeezing desks into every room possible.

It wasn't glamorous, but it was proof that something was working.

Over the next decade and a half, that small creative company evolved into a team of more than 30 filmmakers, photographers, designers, producers, artists, and innovators. Along the way, IDEOLOGY expanded into animation, photography, virtual production, experiential work, design, and content creation for brands across the country.

The technology changed. The office changed. The team grew.

The mission didn't.

Create meaningful work. Push creative boundaries. Never stop learning.

Fifteen years later, IDEOLOGY is still built on the same belief that started it all: the best creative work comes from people who are willing to keep studying, keep evolving, and keep asking, "What if we did it differently?"

Seasons — Rivian (Spec Ad)

Each year we carve out time to produce at least one spec ad as a way to stretch creatively, test new tools, and explore the kinds of stories we want to tell. This Rivian spot follows one couple through the seasons of their life, all grounded by a single vehicle. Filmed in our virtual production studio.
